Cascades Project developer assessing historic designation impacts

Developers of the Cascades Project — the transformation of two downtown city blocks — aren’t sure how new listings on the National Register of Historic Places will impact efforts moving forward.
The former Leon County Health Unit and the Works Progress Administration buildings have been added to the National Register, Secretary of State Ken Detzner announced Monday. A register listing “does not automatically preserve a building, and it does not keep a building from being modified or destroyed,” according to the National Register’s website.
